Due to increased security and some pretty intense checkpoints along the way to the hotel, the featured speaker Donna Brazile, Democratic National Committee vice chair, was unable to make make it to speak at the meeting. Instead, Democrats heard from state and local leaders.

State Treasurer Clint Zweifel and Secretary of State Robin Carnahan addressed the crowd, along with other mayors and members of the delegation.

But in the crowd Tom and LaDonna Appelbaum of St. Louis listened intently. The first-time convention attendees are hoping to pick up as much information to take home to Missouri.

Issues that the Applebaums are particularly interested in include small business, women's issues and how to keep pushing in this election year. See more in the attached video.
