Bryant's Treasurer Defends His Candidate

Mayoral campaign hit with ethics complaint by opponent over past-due report.

The treasurer for Laura Bryant's Creve Coeur Mayoral election campaign Saturday took responsibility for the failure to file a campaign report with elections authorities and called it an honest error.

Bryant's opponent, Barry Glantz, filed a complaint with the Missouri Ethics Commission Friday when the report, which was due 40 days prior to the April 3 election, or February 23, was not filed.

Bryant's Treasurer, David Griege explained via email "that we have absolutely NOTHING to hide." He added that the report would be filed once he returns to town from a business trip.

By law, the Missouri Ethics Commission cannot disclose the receipt or investigation of a complaint. Julie Allen, the MEC's Executive Director, told Patch Friday that penalties could include a fine and/or a letter of reprimand but that that action would not come prior to the April 3 election.

The MEC has 15 business days to conduct an investigation.
