Carnahan: I'm Running For Congress in 2012

Lawmaker challenged by redistricting changes may or may not end up running for Creve Coeur's seat in Congress.

Ever since redrawn congressional district maps eliminated what currently exists as his Third District, Representative Russ Carnahan (D-St. Louis) has been fairly vague about his future electoral plans.

Monday, according to Affton-Shrewsbury Patch, he told a south St. Louis County audience he hopes his future still lies in Congress after next November's election.

“I do plan to be a candidate for congress next year, plan to run for reelection,” the Missouri Democrat told reporters before speaking at an event at the .

Carnahan reiterated that he is still waiting for possible court challenges to the maps before he decides where to run. Under the newly-redrawn maps, Creve Coeur would be part of the Second District, which currently lacks a Democratic candidate but already has a pair of Republican candidates in Ed Martin and Ann Wagner.

Carnahan could also opt to run in the First District, where he would face incumbent Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-St. Louis) in a primary battle.
