City Names Citizens Of The Year

David Caldwell and Claire Chosid are the 2011 winners.

A Creve Coeur man who has taken his passion for following city issues online, and a woman who has been active in efforts to beautify the city were named joint winners of the 2011 Citizen of the Year award at a ceremony Tuesday night.

David Caldwell, editor of the watchdog site CreveCoeurVoter.com, and Claire Chosid, who volunteers on the Recycling, Environment & Beautification Committee, were surprised with the announcement at the city's annual holiday gathering for employees and committee volunteers.

City Council President Tara Nealey credited Caldwell with having used his voice on the website and as a participant at city meetings to educate the public, increase government accountability and positively influence public policy.

"I think it means that the council has shown an appreciaton for the honest effort to make a difference and come up with some ideas to improve Creve Coeur," Caldwell said afterward.

Nealey praised Chosid's efforts to build a sense of community, along with her efforts to develop greenspace in the city and to rid it of honeysuckle.

"When I want something done, I really want it done," Chosid told the crowd, genuinely surprised by the honor.

The city of Creve Coeur will announce the Employee of the Year December 16.
