Creve Coeur Residents Getting Utility Tax Cut

The move takes effect in October.

This week, the Creve Coeur City Council voted to give final passage to a bill that will see a drop in the city's utility tax rate effective in October.

Ward 4 Councilwoman Jeanne Rhoades proposed the 1.5 percent reduction earlier this year, citing an interest in giving residents, particularly those on fixed incomes, a break.

The change could amount to a roughly $24 annual break for the average homeowner.

Ward 1 representatives David Kreuter, Cynthia Kramer and Ward 2's Ellen Lawrence voted against the reduction. Lawrence, in making her vote, expressed that she had heard from residents who told her the wiser option would be to keep the rate in place and find worthy projects worth funding. Kreuter had said earlier that his communication with residents yielded a similar opinion.
