Hospital Interests Line Up Against Creve Coeur Zoning Proposal
Are "Post-Discharge Surgical Recovery Clinics" another name for a hospital? The Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing Monday.
You've likely heard a version of the phrase, "if it walks like a duck, and it talks like a duck, then it's probably a duck."
Monday night, the city of Creve Coeur's Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposal to allow "Post-Discharge Surgical Recovery Clinics" in the Planned Office Zoning District.
Despite the title, representatives from the Missouri Hospital Association, SSM Health Care and BJC are all calling that a hospital.

Those organizations opposed a similar proposal brought before the city of Chesterfield over the summer by St. Louis Cardinals team Physician, Dr. George Paletta. The proposal was approved.
The hearing on Creve Coeur's text amendment comes from the property owner at 450 North New Ballas Road. According to documents filed with the request, the building is more than 52 percent vacant, with some areas in the building sitting vacant for as long as seven years.

Citing the potential for this proposed use to have impacts on residential areas nearby because of 24 hour traffic, lighting, and emergency response, city staff is recommending the Planning and Zoning Commission consider it a "conditional" use, instead of a permitted one. Conditional means a project would still have to come back before city planners.
Monday night's Planning and Zoning Commission Public Hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Creve Coeur Government Center.
