Hotly-contested question over the idea of raising the district's tax levy by $.49 drew fierce support from both sides.

Voters in the Ladue School District approved a request to raise the district's tax levy by $.49 at the polls Tuesday.

YES . . . . . . . . . . . . 4,580 52.92 Percent            

NO. . . . . . . . . . . . . 4,074 47.08 Percent

The question has been a source of community-wide controversy since it was approved for the ballot in November, with passionate backers on each side.

District administrators debated putting the question on the February municipal ballot, but ultimately held off and waited for April after fears that a more conservative electorate turning out for the GOP Presidential Primary could impact the chances for success.

The question still raised the ire of at least one Conservative with a national profile, , who was critical of the proposal.

The school district , and indicated some cuts to balance the district's finances would be likely regardless of the outcome.
