Senior Assisted Living Center Makes Nice With Potential Neighbors, Gets OK'd

The proposed Spectrum Retirement Community property in Creve Coeur still needs approval from City Council.

A plan to place a 90 unit Assisted Living/Memory Care facility for seniors in Creve Coeur took a step forward in front of Creve Coeur's Planning and Zoning Commission earlier this week.

the developer, Spectrum Retirement Communities, worked with the Summit Lofts Board of Directors on a solution. The answer as it turns out, is to move a fire door in the Summit Lofts garage and to build a privacy fence along the pool at the property, to be located on Decker Lane.

The two parties would still need to negotiate a stormwater agreement for the project.

Creve Coeur resident Linday Rezny offered the only criticism of the project Monday during a continued Public Hearing on the matter, saying other Spectrum properties, including one in Crestwood, provided balconies and more amenities to residents.

Mike Longfellow, a Spectrum Vice President, said the company's Crestwood facility is entirely for Independent Living, which means it offers a different set of amenities.

"This in no way is going to play second fiddle," to the Crestwood site, Longfellow told Planning and Zoning members before a motion on the plan received unanimous approval.

According to documents filed with the city, Spectrum has already started reaching out to other neighboring businesses in the area to help ease parking issues which could develop on high-traffic holidays.

The project now moves to City Council.
