Snow Job: Council Ok With Helping MoDOT Plow Olive and Lindbergh

Creve Coeur needs to continue educating the public about who is responsible for plowing what, city officials said Monday night.

Council members did not object to the city staff idea first reported by Patch that city public works crews would be able to plow state roads like Olive Boulevard and Lindbergh Boulevard with the blessing of Missouri Department of Transportation officials. The agency told Patch it welcomes the assistance and that other municipalities have done the same thing.

City crews would merely put their plows down on the road en route to doing a city assignment, clearing the right-most lane, without incurring extra time or costs.

Ward 3 Councilman Bob Hoffman voiced two thoughts on the subject Monday. The first, was a concern that MoDOT would look at the assistance and consider it a substitute for the agency's response, or as reason to do other routes first. The second idea suggested asking MoDOT to pay the city to take over the whole job.

Ward 4 Councilman Scott Saunders said he didn't feel it was a significant concern that the city's aid would be looked at as a substitute, since the city would only be plowing a single lane. 

Council membes said it was important to reinforce with the public that the city was not looking to substitute the state's work, but that it was working cooperatively with the agency.
