Todd Akin Controversy Makes Waves On Sunday Talk Show Circuit

Mitt Romney renewed his call for Akin to drop out of the U.S. Senate race, while GOP strategist Mary Matalin said Ann Wagner would be the nominee.

One week after U.S. Representative Todd Akin's remarks about set off a firestorm of controversy and widespread calls in Republican circles for him to get out of the U.S. Senate race, his status as a candidate against Claire McCaskill was the talk of the Sunday network television talk show circuit.

Akin, in several appearances on conservative talk radio programs and again said he would remain as the Republican Party's nominee.

In an interview with Chris Wallace on FOX News Sunday, Mitt Romney once again called for Akin to drop out, again distancing himself from the remarks about rape and pregnancy.

On ABC's This Week, GOP strategist Marty Matalin said Ann Wagner, currently running for Congress to succeed Akin, "is going to be our candidate. The party is going to get Ann Wagner in."

Wagner is the GOP nominee in the 2nd Congressional District House race to succeed Akin.

Matalin also suggested the possibility of running a write-in candidate.

that disavowed Akin's comments but did not address speculation that she could move to the Senate race.
