Why The Low Voter Turnout for Tuesday's Election?

Despite issues and races with intense interest in Creve Coeur, countywide turnout was low. Tell us why you did or didn't vote.

According to the St. Louis County Board of Elections, voter turnout for the April 3 election was 13.8 percent, with a total of 90,233 ballots cast.

Turnout in Creve Coeur was expected to be heavier, considering the attention given the race for Mayor and the Ladue School District Tax Levy.

Anectdotally speaking, poll volunteers for various campaigns and elections officials told Patch they were somewhat surprised by the turnout.

Mike Newmark voted Tuesday afternoon atin Creve Coeur and felt a sense of responsibility. He also didn't want to lie to his wife when he got home

"I guess I learned my 'American Civ' well enough in my early years that no matter what it is, there's just this tug, it's voting day and no matter what's at stake, the number of people who vote say something to our whole society and we should keep saying it," he said.

He added that he didn't vote on everything on the ballot, because he didn't feel informed enough to make a decision
