Progress Missouri is launching a creative new contest today to support Governor Jay Nixon’s veto of HB253, an “ill-conceived, fiscally irresponsible” tax plan that will require devastating cuts to Missouri’s schools, communities and families if it becomes law.
The rules of the contest are simple:
- Any House member who votes to override the Governor’s veto of HB253 will be entered into a lottery.
- The "winner" selected from this lottery will receive an aerial banner flown over a high school or college football game in his or her home district, advertising the legislator’s short-sided votes against local schools.
- If the House does not take a vote to override the Governor’s veto during the September Veto Session, Progress Missouri will use funds raised for this project to thank Representatives who have opposed HB253 from the beginning.
