"Keep your phone in reach, and your faith in God": How I plan to spend my NFL Draft weekend

How I plan to keep busy during the NFL Draft.

The draft is only two days away and I seem to be more concerned with my final project for my Masters course at Memphis. But who am I fooling, I'm human like the rest of the Draft hopefuls. So I'm pretty sure that the jitters will come back real soon. My Pops seems to be more nervous than me, which is pretty funny since he usually lives by his motto "Never let em see you sweat". But he hasn't been his usual calm, cool, and collected self. But that's just parents caring and him sharing the excitement of the moment with me. My Pops  is my best friend and the best coach I ever had, so he's been an integral part of this journey since the beginning and knows that this moment is a culmination of all the hard work put in to get here.

I've really been overwhelmed with all the support and "well wishes" from family and friends and I really appreciate that. I've also been getting some good advice on how to spend my draft week. Mainly everyone has been telling me to keep busy during the draft and don't just sit around watch because it can get excruciating and nerve racking. Thursday and Friday of the draft i'll be working out and training like usual and I may go see the movie "42" one of those nights and cook dinner for the fam the other night. But the big day for me is day 3.

I plan on spending the last day of the draft (Saturday, rounds 4-7) with my family and also coaching my 4th Grade Elite Flag Football team! I love to coach and coaching this team has been one of the most rewarding experiences for me. We started the early season off rough, but the encouraging thing was that my guys competed and improved greatly from week to week. Progress is all a coach can really ask for and that's what my guys have given. This past weekend it all came together and we got our first win 38-0! I was so excited to see them get a win but even more pumped up about the confidence that they played with, they believed in themselves and their teammates. Moments like these is why I enjoy coaching! The best part of that day was when we were shaking hands after the game. I could tell that the team was riding high after the win, so I told them to be respectful to the opponent and "Act like you've been there before (winning)". A player of mine responded "but we've never won before coach". All I could do was smirk and say "Thats why it's called ACTING".

So during the draft I'll be with people I enjoy (Family), doing things I enjoy (coaching & cooking), and hopefully extending a career that I enjoy (Football). Take care, and to all the draft hopefuls, I'll leave you with the best advice I got regarding the draft, "Keep your phone in reach, and your faith in God".
