Looking For Free Concerts Wednesday and Thursday Night?

Enjoy Lucky Old Sons at Westport and Plastic in Maplewood Wednesday night. Thursday, it's American Idle at Kirkwood Station Plaza. Oktoberfest in St. Charles this weekend.

The rainout of the Charles Glenn Band concert at Twilight Tuesdays was a great disappointment for us—we're really big fans. We're hoping they reschedule the show they had planned, a tribute to Rock of Ages.

Lucky Old Sons brings their jazz and blues to the Westport Plaza Fountain Series in a show that runs from 6 to 8 p.m. We haven't heard this band, but based on the videos on their website they know how to have fun and share the feeling with the audience.

Plastic—another band we're not familiar with—is playing at Ryan Hummert Park in Mapelwood, also from 6 to 8 p.m. Their music covers eighties and nineties rock and new wave as well as some current songs and original works.

Looking ahead to Thursday, American Idle is playing the final show in the Downtown Kirkwood Summer Concert Series at Kirkwood Station Plaza. We've seen American Idle twice this summer, once at this venue and more recently at Clayton Parties in the Park which is actually not in the park, but in the streets of downtown Clayton. American Idle is a hard-driving band featuring two lead guitars playing a wide variety of rock with some selections that seem to be off the beaten track, at least for us. That's refreshing because you might not believe how many bands perform the same current hits. It is nice to hear different intrepretations of popular songs, but the six versions we heard this summer of Pink's "Raise Your Glass" was more than enough. (We've been to a lot of concerts.)

This weekend, it's Oktoberfest in Frontier Park in St. Charles. We attended last year and highly recommend it.
