Olympics 2012: Your Time Is Done

Gabby Douglas, medal counts and the London Summer Olympics are wrapping up. Soon we'll all be back to the Cardinals, but that's not bad!

It's been a long, hot summer for us here in Saint Louis. Many of  my friends have found solace (as well as a good reason to stay indoors the last several weeks) in watching the televised portions of the 2012 Olympics. While I understand the importance and significance of the games, and while I watched some events, they are not my 'cup of tea.' (Notice how I worked in that British reference?)

I will not be all that sad when the 2012 Summer Games wrap up in the next few days. I think it is time, and there are several ways that you, too, may realize that it is time for them to be over:

1) You finally get the British humor of the Opening games - even Mr. Bean - and you find yourself laughing out loud.

2) You find that British words and phrases are creeping into your American English vocabulary.

3) You have no idea what time it is. Anywhere.

4) You keep waiting for Ann Curry to arrive on the telly screen as was promised, and now realize that she probably won't be on.

5) You get as close to the screen as you can during swimming events to see if you can see the Chap Stick that the swimmers supposedly rub on their faces.

6) You learned that the "Fab Five" have had to change their nickname to "Fierce Five" because a basketball player has placed a trademark on that former name.

7) The color of Gabby's tights has been a subject of conversation and discussion.

8) Your Fruit Loops seem to be forming the Olympic Rings on your spoon each morning.

I'll stop here with eight, since this is the 8th day of the 8th month... and also the birthday of a member of the British Royal Family. Shall I say Cheerio? (They could form the Olympic Rings on your spoon, too!)

Happy to see people still think sports or NOT everything. Hang in there.
