"Learning from Fukushima: Reflections on a Nuclear Crisis"

From the Whitfield School website:

Whitfield senior Richard Zajac will present “Learning from Fukushima: Reflections on a Nuclear Crisis” February 23, 2012, at Washington University in St. Louis. The program, co-sponsored by the Film & Media Studies Program and the East Asian Languages & Cultures Department, will be held in Brown Hall, Room 100, from 7:30-10:00 PM.  Jean-Michel Cousteau, Chairman and President of Ocean Futures Society, film producer, educator and a life-long innovator dedicated to marine preservation, will be a guest speaker.  The event is free and open to the public.

Learning from Fukushima: Reflections on a Nuclear Crisis,” is Richard's formal presentation of his Whitfield Senior Independent Study.  In September 2011, Richard traveled to Japan to create a documentary film detailing the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, its aftermath, and some not-so-obvious societal and cultural challenges.  The film is tentatively titled, “New Hibakusha.”  To see a trailer for the film, click here.
