It was my desire to “make a difference” which charted my course to a career in education. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education, and a Masters of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction, I have taught preschool through college aged students, many with exceptional abilities on both ends of the education spectrum.

My husband, Barry, and I have three children, a 2008 graduate, a soon-to-be 2012 graduate, and an eighth grader, all of whom are products of the Ladue School District. As a preschool music specialist, I am well aware of the significant impact that a strong early childhood education program has on our youngsters. I am committed to maintaining the standard of excellence for which our school district is known.

After being on the boards of my children’s elementary and middle schools, I joined the Board of Education in 2006. In addition, I served two years on the district’s Science Curriculum Committee, and have been the Board liaison to the C.U.R.E., Diversity, Curriculum and Instruction, Technology, and Employee Insurance Advisory Committees. My tenure on the Board of Education has provided me with the opportunities to serve my community in a most important capacity, as well as exercise my leadership skills, in often trying times, by serving as the Board president for two consecutive years.
It is easy to talk about problems and potential solutions, but to effect change, one must act.  With six years of experience on the school board, I continue to look forward to making a difference.

Why are you running for Ladue Board of Education?

I am committed to Ladue School District’s maintaining its status as one of the finest in the nation. To maintain and continue to improve this status, I support the efforts to advance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (“STEM”) programs so that we will be on the cutting edge of education. If funding allows, adding the option of Chinese to our foreign language department would be a priority. My experience on the Board has prepared me to help see the district through these unprecedented, financially challenging times. It has been an honor to serve this community and I have the knowledge, ability, and desire to continue in this capacity.

What do you think are key issues facing the School Board in the next two or three years?

Restoring the district to firm financial footing is a must. Due to current budgetary constraints, Ladue has slipped in rank, both in teacher salaries, as well as expenditures per student, when compared to other districts. It is imperative to re-establish Ladue’s ranking in these areas in order to retain the high quality staff we currently employ. Educational excellence must be ensured, even in these unmatched financial times. By spending wisely, as well as by seeking additional revenue producing opportunities, this task can be accomplished. Finally, the ability to work collaboratively with district stakeholders, staff, and other professionals is of paramount importance in order to maintain the exemplary education and stellar reputation for which Ladue School District has become known.
