New Athletic Director Coming to De Smet

School taps 1977 alum and current basketball assistant coach for new position.

A new person will be responsible for the Athletic Department, effective this coming summer. The Creve Coeur school announced Monday that John Stewart will succeed Kevin Fober effective July 1.

Fober has led the Spartans since 2003 and is also a foreign language teacher, among other duties. Reached Tuesday afternoon, Fober wouldn't comment on what led him to decide to leave, but said he was exploring other options. He previously served as head coach of the boy's swmming team and has been with the school for 17 years.

Stewart, a De Smet graduate is a former Spartan basketball player and has been an assistant basketball coach there since 2009. Stewart was most recently a business manager with Anheuser-Busch InBev.
