Whiz Kid Age: 16
Whiz Kids School: Westminster Christian Academy
Whiz Kids Accomplishments: To say that Taylor is a busy kid is putting it mildly. The Town and Country teen's involvement in school and extracurricular activities would make most people's heads spin.
Taylor is an accomplished musician who plays the guitar, piano and trumpet. He is also a singer and a songwriter.
Taylor is involved in the Westminster Chapel Band, which practices one a week and performs at the Wednesday chapel service at the school. He is a member of the chapel choir at the school and involved in an advanced improv group that recently held a “poetry slam” that he participated in.
Taylor is currently getting ready to go on a trip to Prague with the Chapel Choir.
When Taylor is not performing music, he is practicing or playing with his band, Lost Continent. His band will play at Cicero's in University City on March 5 to celebrate the release of its first album of all original music. “It is kind of alternative or experimental type music because we use a lot of different chord runs,” Hughes said.
When Taylor is not writing or performing music he is a youth minister atFirst Free Church, leading worship with middle school kids. In addition to helping out at his church, he also leads a Bible study at his home on once a week.
With all of his time split between music and worship Taylor maintains a 3.9 GPA.
Whiz Kids Key to Awesomeness: In Taylor's humble opinion he, “just learned to scream on key and play the guitar.”
Taylor plans on pursing some type of music education once he graduates from Westminster, although he has not decided on a college.
In addition to his musical accomplishments and leadership roles at his church, he is has been the leader of the Westminster Junior and Senior High worship bands as well as the leader of the chapel band.
