5 Minutes With Priory Basketball Coach Bobby McCormack

The longtime boys basketball coach at CBC just completed his first season of summer camps at Priory in Creve Coeur.

Longtime followers of the high school basketball scene in St. Louis may be hard-pressed to find an offseason that has contained so much drama when it comes to a shuffling of high-profile coaches as well as questions about where high-profile athletes will be playing next season.

That's especially the case in Creve Coeur, which saw Kelvin Lee depart Chaminade and land at Miller Career Academy and at Priory, which hired longtime CBC coach Bobby McCormack after he was pushed off the Cadet bench. One of McCormack's former players, Justin Tatum, succeeded him.

Patch sat down for five minutes with McCormack as his popular summer youth basketball camps wrapped up after also making the move to Priory. A fall camp is also slated.

Patch: On The First Year of Summer Camps at Priory

McCormack: "Of my 27 years running camps, it's probably been my best. The people at Priory are fantastic and the facility here is spectacular because its so spacious and we've got 16 baskets, two gyms and we can really accommodate a lot of kids so Priory's been great."

Patch: On Making The Adjustment To Priory

McCormack:  "
You know what? The adjustment has been so easy simply because they've really opened their arms to me. We had a team camp and we had 55 kids at the team camp. The kids are working hard. Academically you're dealing with really fine young men that have the academics figured out and that makes my job easier."

McCormack said he joked with players at the team camp that because of their high ACT scores, "I'm going to be the dumbest guy on the floor every day at practice."

Patch: On the drama associated with speculated player and coach movement this offseason.

McCormack: "Through the years, Change is good. I wish Justin Tatum all the best. I hope Kelvin (Lee) does well down there and we're going to work with our players and do our best to make sure that they succeed."
