Bobby McCormack Named Head Basketball Coach at St. Louis Priory

McCormack will continue as a physical education teacher at CBC, which opted not to renew his contract to coach.

Bobby McCormack will not have to travel far to find his next coaching destination.

McCormack, the former CBC Head Basketball Coach who learned last month that his contract would not be renewed, was announced Tuesday as the next boys basketball coach at St. Louis Priory.

"I am extremely excited about it," McCormack said by phone Tuesday morning, talking about a chance for "a new phase" after 17 years coaching at CBC. He will remain as a physical education teacher at CBC, a situation he told Patch would not be akward even with his exit from the bench and the recent hire of Justin Tatum as his successor.

McCormack moves to a program which went 4-22 in the Metro League in 2012 under Rick Suarez. He said the chance to work with students in the school's lower school will allow him to build a program starting at the middle school level, and that his eight summer camps will move to Priory with him. He praised Priory's facilities and the opportunity to help expose the public to the school's academic and athletic programs.

Priory Athletic Director Tom Fiala told Patch late Tuesday afternoon that McCormack was a proven coach anda  quality person. For Fiala, it is a Metro Catholic Conference reunion of sorts, as he saw McCormack's work firsthand when Fiala was at Chaminade.

McCormack said he was grateful for the chance to coach at CBC, but was ready for that "next phase" at Priory.

"They're gonna get the best that I have to offer," McCormack said.
