Cards Draftee Oquendo Signs With Missouri Baptist University

The son of the St. Louis Cardinals' third base coach will be a sophomore

The "Secret Weapon's" son will be plying his trade in Creve Coeur next spring.

announced Wednesday that Eduardo Oquendo, who was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in June's amateur draft, had signed on to continue his college career with the Spartans.

Oquendo, a middle infielder like his father Jose, who earned a reputation for his ability to play almost everywhere on the diamond, was one of many sons of Cardinals staff drafted by the team in June. Tate Matheny. Matheny, the son of Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny, was selected, but will attend Missouri State in the fall.

Oquendo had an injury-shortened Freshman season at Olney Central College where he hit .246 with nine RBI in 57 plate appearances. 

"We had to reload at several positions," Head Baseball Coach Eddie Uschold said in a statement released by the school. "Eduardo, along with our 2013 recruitment class, will be joining a strong core of players that have, and know how to, win at this level."
