Creve Coeur Area Hoops Standouts Make College Plans Official

Mikala McGhee and Kristen Hanna signed letters of intent at Pattonville High School Wednesday, promising to attend two Missouri universities.

Two athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday, each promising a Missouri school they would join their women’s basketball programs.

Mikala McGhee signed with Division I school Missouri State University, while Kristen Hanna signed with Division II school Missouri Southern State University.

Hanna said she accepted Missouri Southern's offer because the school isn’t far from home, she liked the girls on their basketball team and it was a good place for the type of education she wants.

Hanna wants to study broadcast journalism, she said, and hopes to be a sports broadcaster in a large city or ESPN.

McGhee has similar academic aspirations. She wants to major in communications, with a minor in sports management.

Missouri State’s distance was also a factor for McGhee. She said the university is only three hours away from home.

The Pattonville’s girl’s basketball team 2011 season hasn’t started yet, and while Hanna’s father Chad is looking forward to the new season, he said it will be “bittersweet.” His daughter and McGhee have been playing basketball together since the second grade.

Thursday on Patch: One of Creve Coeur's best high school golfers will be playing in the Big Ten Conference next year.
