De Smet Falls To Conference Foe SLUH 4-3 On The Diamond

Spartans host Seckman Wednesday

University of Iowa signee Sasha Kuebel bested Kyle Bouman in a battle of southpaws as St. Louis University High School stayed undefeated in Metro Catholic Conference play with a win Tuesday at.  The matchup featured several key opportunities for each pitcher to help their own cause at the plate.

Kuebel, also the Jr. Billikens’ cleanup hitter, got his team on the board with an RBI single in the first inning. The Spartans took the lead in the third when Killian Knowles started a two out rally with a single to left.  Zak Larkin drew a walk. A Bouman line drive up the middle scored Knowles and a passed ball brought Larkin home to make it 2-1.

De Smet had a chance to expand the lead in the fifth, when it loaded the bases with one out. Kuebel got past Bouman and Zack Caldwell to work out of the jam, then was first to hit in the sixth when he cranked a home run over the centerfield fence. The Jr. Bills brought another run in to take back the lead 3-2.

The Spartans tied it in the bottom half, but an RBI single by Sam Knesel in the seventh gave SLUH a lead Kuebel would not surrender in the bottom half.

De Smet (11-7) hosts Seckman Wednesday, while SLUH (16-0) will make the trip to Creve Coeur for the second day in a row to face .
