De Smet Jesuit In Lopsided Football Affair vs. Chaminade

The Spartans pick up the win to prepare for a tough road trip to face Jefferson City next Friday, while the Red Devils will look to end a 2-game losing streak.

The Fast Read

The De Smet Jesuit Spartans took advantage of field position and an inexperienced visiting Chaminade Red Devils squad en route to a 48-3 win over their crosstown rivals on Friday night. Senior running back Marcus Jester led the way with three touchdowns on the ground for the Spartans, who improved to 2-2 on the year and 2-0 in Metro Catholic Conference play.

Running back Dedrick Cromartie, Quarterback Scott Sinovich and Josh Williams added Spartan touchdowns on the night.

Chaminade's (2-2, 0-1 in MCC) best starting field position came at the Red Devils' own 38 yard line and the team was unable to get much going on offense. Dominic Bobo, the Red Devil running back who has carried much of the load for the team this season, was largely held in check. The Spartans were able to take advantage of a blocked punt, an interception and a fumble recovery on defense and special teams. De Smet Jesuit's worst starting field position was twice at their own 11 yard line, but not until the team already had a 21-3 advantage late in the first half and then late in the fourth quarter with a 41-3 edge.

Quotable I

"It was a game that we really needed. We played three really tough opponents. Chaminade I think is a real quality group of kids, they're very very young, but they're super aggressive," De Smet Jesuit Head Coach Pat Mahoney said. "Offensively I think we learned an awful lot about how we have to play faster so I think we maybe finally understand our concepts a little better defensively it was good to have a little confidence builder."

Quotable II

"You can't shoot yourself in the foot against a very good football team, against a very good coach over there. They made plays and we didn't and we've got to learn from it and move on. We're a 5A school and they're a 6A school and we've got other goals besides beating De Smet so we'll move on and prepare tomorrow," Chaminade Head Coach Antoine Torrey said.

The Funny Thing About Numbers:

The longest pass play from scrimmage Friday night came from the Spartans' third-string quarterback when Alik Shelton found Matt Bruns for 64 yards down the De Smet Jesuit sideline to the Chaminade 8 yard-line en route to Williams' score to create the final margin.

Bauer Honored:

During a Friday morning assembly and again at halftime, De Smet Jesuit offensive lineman Andy Bauer was recognized for his selection to the UnderArmour High School All-American game to be played in January. Game officials came to the school to present Bauer's jersey. Bauer is out for the season while he recovers from hip surgery. He's given a verbal pledge to play at Mississippi.

Up Next:

De Smet Jesuit travels to central Missouri to face the Jefferson City Jays next Friday, while Chaminade stays in conference for a road test against SLUH on Thursday night.
