De Smet Jesuit Grad Malcolm Agnew Transferring To Southern Illinois

The former three-star recruit will be eligible to play immediately for the Salukis

A former De Smet Jesuit Spartan is coming a little closer to home to continue his college football career.

Southern Illinois announced earlier this week that running back Malcolm Agnew will transfer from Oregon State.

Agnew burst onto the scene as a freshman for the Beavers in 2011, rushing for 223 yards and 3 touchdowns in his first college game, but was plagued by hamstring injuries for the remainder of his freshman season.

"There is NO bad blood between me and oregon state nor will there ever be any, I leave with good graces and hope the best for them next year," Agnew Tweeted Friday night.

“Southern Illinois is gaining  a terrific young man who will represent the university with integrity. The entire Oregon State football program wishes Malcolm the best in his new surroundings and future endeavors," OSU Head Coach Mike Riley said, in reacting to the news.

Agnew can play immediately this fall without sitting out a year, as Southern Illinois play at the Football Championship Subdivision level.

Agnew's brother Ray and placekicker Chris Adams, also De Smet Jesuit graduates, also play for the Salukis.
