De Smet Jesuit Basketball Star Nolan Berry Out With Two Fractured Arms

The senior forward will meet with his doctor before Christmas, with hopes of returning before the end of the season.

De Smet Jesuit won the basketball team's varsity season opener against Whitfield School 62-54 Monday without one of the area's best players stepping on the court. The Spartans may have to get used to it for a while. , fractured both his arms in practice last week.

In an email to Patch late Monday confirming the injury, after news of it was first reported on Twitter by stlhighschoolsports.com's Nate Latsch, Berry's mother Meg said he saw a doctor Monday and will have another meeting December 20. "Nolan is determined he will get the "all clear" at that appointment and be back on the court soon after! (Not sure if that's how it will go but it's good for Nolan to have that attitude!)," she wrote, underscoring that they really won't know anything about his return until then.

Meg Berry also wrote that Nolan was already doing therapy and has movement in his right arm, with the ability to do exercise with his elbow and hand. In the meantime, "he said it was torture not being able to play. He's glad the Spartans got a win though!!!"
