De Smet Opens 2011-2012 Hoops Season With Win Over Sumner
The Spartans are playing in the Whitfield Tournament in Creve Coeur.
The biggest news for the Spartan basketball squad in the offseason may have been the news that to play college ball for the Butler Bulldogs beginning in 2013. Monday, Berry started his junior campaign against the Bulldogs. The Sumner Bulldogs.
Berry had 20 points one minute into the third quarter as De Smet cruised past Sumner 69-37 in opening round play at the Whitfield tournament Monday night. The Spartans worked their motion offense featuring plenty of backdoor cuts in addition to taking advantage of the squad's overall height advantage.
De Smet will face Cardinal Ritter, led by Notre Dame signee Cameron Biedscheid on Wednesday. Ritter defeated the host Whitfield Warriors Monday night.
