after Durron Neal made a verbal pledge to attend the University of Oklahoma, the standout wide receiver was true to his word Wednesday, and signed a national letter of intent to join the Sooner program in the fall. Neal's was the first letter to appear on the OU fax machine just after 7 a.m. local time.
His signature puts a wrap on a process that angered Missouri fans who wanted the St. Louis area star to stay home, and later brought anxiety in the Oklahoma fanbase when he said he would have decommitted had OU assistant Jay Norvell, his main recruiter, left to join the staff at Wisconsin. Then there was talk in recent days that Dorial Green-Beckham, the prized Wide Receiver from Springfield who opted for Missouri, made a late push to have Neal join him in Columbia. For Sooner fans it brought back memories of another St. Louis receiver, Jeremy Maclin, who switched from Oklahoma in favor of the home state Tigers
Patch talked about it all with Neal following a late afternoon ceremony with fellow De Smet signees, with the look and feel of a young man relieved of a lot of pressure, along with the overanalysis of every move and every post on his Twitter account.
"Kids watching this may think the recruiting process is fun, it's not. You get tired of all the calls and the mail everyday," he said.
"They can't say nothing now I'm Oklahoma all the way. I was the first to send my letter in today, all of its over with now," he said of those who questioned or had their doubts along the way.
with him, he's now looking forward to making an impact himself next fall.
