Jamborees Sets The Stage For 2013 Prep Football Campaign

Patch checked out the action at Parkway North and Parkway Central Friday night.

After weeks of offseason training and a few this fall under their belts, area high school football teams were itching for a chance to go up against someone else besides themselves ahead of this week's season kickoff.

That's why schools fanned out across the area Friday night for Jamborees, a condensed format that allowed teams to compete against three other squads in one place.

Patch checked out the action at Parkway North, which hosted De Smet Jesuit among others, and Parkway Central to get a taste of what's to come this season.

  • We saw what Scott Sinovich looks like as De Smet Jesuit's starting quarterback. He'll still rely heavily on running back Marcus Jester. It was good to see Latif Adams back on the field after missing 2012 with injury. The Spartans will need to adjust to a rebuilt offensive line which will be without the services of Andy and Robbie Bauer due to a hip injury (Andy) and a career-ending concussion (Robbie).
  • Parkway North will have a new quarterback behind center in 2013 as Collin Weber takes over the starting duties. Weber succeeds Andy Huss, who graduated in May. Weber will be looking for new playmakers on offense to replace Jonathan Little and Roderick Hoskins, who carried the bulk of the load for the Vikings last season.
  • We'll touch on this more in another story later this week, but Parkway Central has every reason to be just as good as they were a year ago, featuring a defense with Division I scholarship talent and a pounding, contrasting running game on offense.
