Kirkwood Spoils Parkway North Homecoming In Dominating Fashion

In the world of college football, Homecoming is generally the time when the home team finds an overmatched opponent, thanks them for playing and sends the fans home happy.

Unfortunately for the Parkway North Vikings, the high school level offers little such luxury.

Saturday, the Kirkwood Pioneers (5-0), ranked number 1 statewide in Class 5, came in and used a dominating first quarter on both sides of the ball to extinguish any Viking hopes for an upset en route to a 47-6 rout.

After Parkway North (2-3) was forced to punt on its first possession, Pioneers QB Jordan Bishop found WR Andre Harris on a 51 yard touchdown pass.

On North's next play from scrimmage after the kickoff, Harris intercepted an Andy Huss pass in Viking territory for a score, giving Kirkwood a 12-0 lead after the game's first 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Harris added a third score later in the second quarter with an 84 yard touchdown in the second quarter to push the Pioneer advantage to 40-0.

Running Back Ramon Alton had 2 touchdowns in the first half. QB Jordan Bishop also had a touchdown on the ground in addition to his work in the air.

In the second half, with a running clock, Parkway North backup QB Collin Weber found Trey Richard in the endzone for the Vikings' lone score as time expired.

Parkway North Head Coach Bob Bunton was blunt afterward.

"That was a thrashing, it was a butt-kicking. that's the number one team in the state, we offered  no resistance from the opening kickoff...we just made some bad decisions and right now, I told the kids we're not in that class," Bunton said.

Kirkwood Head Coach Matt Irwin said his defense was sharper than it has been recently, and praised Harris for being a difference-maker with those two first quarter touchdowns.

"He's got that ablity. We haven't gotten him on track all the time. He's been doubled a little bit this year, so when he has the opportunity to make big plays, he certainly did that today, more than once, and again, that really influenced the game's outcome," Irwin said.

Next Up: Parkway North hosts Parkway Central (5-0), coming off a big win over Webster Groves. Kirkwood hosts Seckman. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
