Mizzou Football: News On Jack Meiners & Donavin Newsom

The Tigers are working toward their season opener Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana.

Missouri Head Football Coach Gary Pinkel announced Monday that Jack Meiners, a graduate who was slated to start the season at Right Guard for MU , could be back in time for the team's Southeastern Conference opener September 8 against Georgia.

Junior Max Copeland will start for MU at that spot against Southeastern Louisiana Saturday.

Pinkel, meeting with the media Monday, also addressed the status of freshmen who would likely see the field this season instead of taking on a redshirt season.

If the current two-deep roster holds true and injuries don't create opportunities, it would appear that recent graduate Donavin Newsom will retain a fourth year of eligibility and not see the field in 2012.
