No-Hitter Propels Parkway North To Doubleheader Sweep Over South

Parkway North Head Baseball Coach Fred Friedman can lay claim to something few coaches at any level can right now. In the last four games, his team has thrown two no-hitters. Connor Ladig did the honors Thursday in an 11-0 win to sweep Parkway South.

Ladig, who senior second baseman Daniel Brodsky called a "crafty" lefty in a preseason interview, went 6-1 with a 2.54 ERA in 2012. Still, he was somewhat overshadowed by Joe Hope, who threw a no-hitter in last year's state semifinal, and Joey Reeves, who was thrust on the scene as a Freshman.

Ladig walked 5 and struck out 3 in five innings for his first no-hitter. Friedman said a diving stop by Brodsky saved it.

When Catcher Garrett Taylor wasn't guiding his pitcher from behind the plate, he was mashing against the opposing hurler Thursday, going 4-4 with two home runs to drive in five runs. He went 6 for 8 in the doubleheader.

Friedman credits the team's come-from-behind 6-5 win in game one for giving Ladig momentum into the nightcap, where despite the walks, he pounded the strike zone with a moving fastball.

North opens at home Friday against Howell Central, ranked number one in the Post-Dispatch rankings. Howell lost Thursday to CBC. Junior righty Adam Faires gets the start at 4:15 p.m.
