More than Parkway Central's homecoming game will be on the line Friday night in Chesterfield.

Kirkwood High and Webster Groves High have the Frisco Bell, the traveling trophy that goes with the winner of each year's Turkey Day Game between either the varsity or junior varsity teams each Thanksgiving Day.

That tradition had its 100th anniversary in 2007. This year, Chesterfield's mayor hopes to start the city's own tradition by instituting the Mayor's Cup Award to the winner of the annual football face-off between Parkway Central and Parkway West high schools.

The inaugural Mayor's Cup game is Sept. 20 when the Longhorns face the Colts at Central High at 7 p.m.

The new tradition is being kicked off as part of Chesterfield's year-long 25th anniversary celebration. Mayor Bob Nation will attend the game and present the cup to the winner, which will display it in its trophy case for the year.

"While approximately one-half of Chesterfield is served by the Parkway School District," the city said in a statement, "these are the only high schools located within Chesterfield’s city limits."

It could be a tough outing for the Longhorns, who have started this season with two losses, scoreless in both, while the Colts are 2-0 out of the gate, with mammoth wins over Ladue and Clayton.

MaxPreps ranks Parkway Central No. 8 in the state, while it ranks the Longhorns No. 218.

The site shows that the Colts have lost to the Longhorns only twice since 2004 — in 2006 and 2008.
