Parkway North and Chaminade Face Off Tonight In District Battle To Stay Alive

Both teams face steep opponents next week.

In what is essentially an elimination game in the Class 5 District 2 round-robin, plays host to tonight at 7 p.m.

The Red Devils are trying to snap a four-game losing streak after beginning the season 3-0. They lost 35-0 to Webster Groves last week.

North is 4-4 and coming off a It’s been a disappointing year for a Vikings team with high expectations. An early-season injury to standout running back Donavin Newsom hasn’t helped. Newsom, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound Missouri recruit, has 398 rushing yards and three touchdowns this season. While he’s been down, Jovonte Suber has done his best to pick up the slack. The 152-pound senior leads the team with 842 rushing yards and 12 total touchdowns.

Chaminade is still trying to rebuild after sending its quarterback and running back to Division I football programs. Dixon Anthon took over at tailback for Rob Standard, now at Iowa State, and has 770 rushing yards and 13 scores. Logan Hutson has struggled in his first season as a starter, completing 41 percent of his passes for 573 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions. Last season, Christian Suntrup threw for 1,240 yards and 14 TDs.

With a trip to unbeaten Webster Groves next week, tonight’s game is a must-win for the Vikings. Chaminade's road is not much easier, as the Red Devils face Parkway Central.
