Parkway North Selling Rally Towels To Benefit Injured Student

Kiland Sampa is recovering after breaking his neck in a swimming pool accident.

When the Parkway North Vikings kick off the 2013 high school football season Friday playing  hosting SLUH Friday night, fans will have a chance to support their team and another member of the school family at the same time.

The school will be selling rally towels for $5, with proceeds going to assist Kiland Sampa, the North tennis standout who suffered a broken neck over the summer while in Indianapolis for a tournament. Donations greater than that amount will also be accepted.

Sampa had surgery to repair a crushed vertebra and damage to his spinal cord and has since returned home to continue his rehab and recovery at Ranken Jordan Hospital.

The towels will have the phrase "Passion and Determination," a mantra his coach Ron Lefcourt said Sampa has used for inspiration during his career. Sampa was part of the Parkway North tennis team that advanced to the state tournament last season and Lefcourt called him the most talented player to come through the program in the past decade.

Lefcourt said Sampa has worked to regain strength in his upper body and is attacking his recovery with the same spirit and attitude he's used to as a player.
