Scherzer Perfect In All Star Game Debut

Parkway graduate Max Scherzer got the American League off on the right foot as the starting pitcher in Tuesday's MLB All Star Game.

Parkway Central graduate Max Scherzer wasn't in Tuesday night's All Star Game for long.

Scherzer, tied for the American League lead with 13 wins at the break, was the starting pitcher for the junior circuit in the game played at Citi Field in New York. With his own Detroit Tigers Manager Jim Leyland managing the squad and having just pitched Saturday, Scherzer threw a total of 12 pitches in a perfect first inning.

After he was done, Scherzer, who returned to Twitter earlier in the day, engaged in some more social media activity organized by Major League Baseball, by posting this short Vine on Twitter.

Scherzer presumably had a chance to meet the person who stole the show Tuesday night in New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, who is retiring after this season en route to what is sure to be a stop in Cooperstown at the Hall of Fame.

CBS Radio in Detroit reported prior to the All Star Game festivities that Scherzer hoped to meet Rivera and possibly even learn something from him.

Rivera was named the game's MVP.
