Suburban South Conference Roundup Hits On Football, Softball, Golf and More

The latest news and notes from the Suburban South Conference, why one Parkway Central standout is this week's Patch Girls conference player of the week

University City of 2011 and did it with an aerial show. Deandre Williams completed 13-of-20 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns in a 25-20 conference victory over .


Alex Henry was on the receiving end of all three of Williams' touchdown passes. Henry finished the game with six catches for 168 yards, a 28-yard per reception average. The 1-2 Lions have now already matched their win total from 2010.

Jovonte Suber scored all three of Parkway North's touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the Rayshawn Simmons air show continues to impress at Webster Groves.

The Statesmen quarterback followed up his five touchdown performance against University City with another amazing aerial display last Friday night against St. Louis University High.

Simmons completed 17-of-34 passes for 275 yards and four more touchdowns as the Statesmen remained unbeaten with a 49-28 victory over the Junior Bills. He has 12 touchdowns and zero interceptions this season.

Helping Simmons has been receiver A.J. Farrar, who leads Webster with 13 receptions for 224 yards and six TDs.

Only one of Webster's three wins has come in the Suburban South as rival Kirkwood leads the conference with a 2-0 mark. The Pioneers have been impressive in both of their wins as they have scored 78 points and allowed just 14. The Pioneers beat Seckman Friday night, 42-7, and Rockwood Summit in their season opener, 36-7, on August 26.

Kirkwood's win over Rockwood Summit looks even more impressive as the Falcons have won their past two games, including a 39-7 win over Parkway West on Friday night. Ian McIntosh rushed for 131 yards and scored three touchdowns to pace the Falcons.

is the other unbeaten team in the conference. The Colts improved to 3-0 Cole Gorman threw for three touchdown passes in the first half, and Devon Westley rushed for 121 yards on nine carries for the Colts, who are 1-0 in the league.

Softball: Red-Hot Waitz Shines For Parkway Central

The start of the 2011 season has been a rough one for the Parkway Central softball team. The Colts entered play this weekend with a 1-8 record and have scored just 30 runs while allowing 113.

But one Colts player had a tournament to remember in the Suburban South/West Conference Tournament. Alyssa Waitz reached base on 13 of her 14 plate appearances in the three games and had six RBI and five runs scored.

Only two of the league's teams have winning records in nonconference play with Webster Groves leading the way with a 6-3 mark. Parkway North is 6-5.

Golf: Summit’s Eisenreich Impresses

Rockwood Summit golfer Lindsey Eisenreich is off to a spectacular senior season.

The Falcons are 3-0 in dual matches and Eisenreich has been the medalist in every match and tournament the Falcons have played in. Eisenreich won the Summit Invitational with a 74 and shot a 77 to win the Rockwood Quad.

Cross Country: Parkway West Standing Out

The Parkway West cross country teams had a great showing in the Parkway Quad last Tuesday. The boys had four of the top six finishers in winning the varsity division.

The Longhorns also won the junior varsity and freshmen races. Junior Lindsey Egan won the girls varsity race while freshman Maddy Brown finished third in varsity in her first cross country race.

Parkway Central's Eric Sivill won the boy's race at the Parkway Quad.

Patch Suburban South Boys Athlete of the Week

University City (1-2) QB Deandre Williams completed 13-of-20 passes for 339 yards and three TDs against Parkway North last Friday. In week one, Williams was 19-of-27 passes for 294 yards and the three touchdowns in a loss to Parkway West. The Lions were just 1-9 in 2010, but are vastly improved behind first-year head coach Carl Reed. Thanks to Williams’ heroics last Friday, they are already one win away from surpassing their 2010 total.

Suburban South Girls Athlete of the Week

Parkway Central's Alyssa Waitz opened the Suburban South/West Conference Tournament with a pair of hits in an 11-8 loss to Fox. She followed up with a four-for-four game with four RBI in a 10-5 win over Kirkwood. She was a home run short of the cycle with two singles, a double and a triple.

Waitz concluded the tourney going two-for-two with a walk and three runs scored in a 12-8 loss to Parkway West. Waitz, who is hitting .565 for the season, reached base on 13 of her 14 plate appearances in the three games.
