Technically, yes, the St. Louis Cardinals are in the playoffs after the Los Angeles Dodgers lost their shot at a wildcard berth on Tuesday. But it's do-or-die time for the Redbirds this afternoon.

That's when the Cards face the Atlanta Braves in a one-game playoff for the National League wildcard slot — the first year this format has been used.

First pitch is at 4:07 p.m. at Turner Field in Atlanta, where the weather is expected to be sunny and in the 80s.

Kyle Lohse (who was 16-3 during the season) takes the ball goes for the Cardinals, facing the Kris Medlen—and the Braves have won 23 straight games started by the 26-year-old right-hander.

The winner faces the Washington Nationals in the best-of-five National League Division Series, starting Sunday.
