Whitfield Golfer Will Take His Talents To The Big Ten

Mitch Rutledge signed a letter of intent to play at Michigan State next year.

In the wacky world of college athletics and conference realignment, there were many people hoping that Missouri would end up in the Big Ten instead of the Southeastern Conference. That, as we know now, will not be the case, but Creve Coeur golf fans will have at least one athletic import to cheer on in the Big Ten.

Mitch Rutledge, a senior at and a member of the varsity golf team, signed a letter of intent to play for Michigan State starting next year. Rutledge, who led Whitfield to a second straight Class 2 team state title in 2011, also dominated on the individual level.

In his junior season, he was a 5 time medalist in dual matches, and won one regular season tournament and all three post season tournaments. He was the District Champion by three shots, Sectional Champion by nine shots, and the Individual Class 2 State Champion by eight shots.
