"Guys, I've got news for you. William Piwina-Worms, one of our former stars just signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals."
And further, "he was one of those guys who ran everywhere. He was always the first one out of the dugout."
The kids wanted to know what was going on. One asked, "coach, how many of your players are playing professionally" "Three," Garrett said proudly, rattling off the other names.
Then, it was back to work. That meant fundamental drills in throwing and catching a baseball; running the bases, making the plays in the field, drills like that.
