Whiz Kid: Boy Scout Supplies Boost For Creve Coeur Non-Profit

On Monday, Clark, who will be a senior at SLUH in the fall, completed the community service project portion of his work to become an Eagle Scout, and he helped a Creve Coeur charity in the process.

Earlier this month, Clark sent letters to more than 1,500 people in the area asking if they would donate new cleaning supplies to , which provides a home away from home for families from out of town who are seeking medical care at local hospitals. Families also receive a variety of support services on site.

Clark is part of Troop 805, which meets at Green Trails Elementary School in Chesterfield. His plea for handsoaps and paper towels was heard and on Monday he dropped off more than 2500 items at HavenHouse's office on Olive Boulevard.

Clark told Patch that his mother worked nearby and passed by the facility on a daily basis, and encouraged him to learn more about it. The result of his effort means more people will get to find out firsthand how HavenHouse serves those in need.

"It costs HavenHouse approximately $100 per patient/family per day.  With Andrew helping us save over $6,600, we can use those resources to help up to 66 patients and their families with their stay at HavenHouse!" said Lindsey Gibson, HavenHouse's director of community development in an email to Patch. "Andrew gave us the best gift of all – the ability to help more individuals with the services they so desperately need!"

Andrew, 17, is a pitcher on the SLUH baseball team. He hopes to continue his career in college, but is also looking forward to the possibility of majoring in Pre-Med.
