The 'Vanguard' Project, Trash Bids & Saying Goodbye

A roundup of what's going on around Creve Coeur this week.

This marks the last time yours truly will be giving you a preview of what's to come in the days ahead. If you haven't heard, Tuesday is my last day with Patch.

As for what's happening around town this week.

Monday night, the Creve Coeur City Council meets at 7 p.m. for a meeting which will include first reading of a request for a conditional use permit and rezoning of an area on Old Olive Street Road for the "Vanguard At Creve Coeur" apartments. The high-end luxury apartments proposed for the former Immanuel Baptist Church site is an attempt to appeal to Creve Coeur's high-tech community, including employees of the nearby Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, BRDG Park and The Helix Center.

On Thursday, bids from firms competing to win Creve Coeur's next trash and recycling contract are set to be revealed. After offering rear-yard trash pickup at no additional charge to residents in the past, city officials have asked companies to put together a bid that would allow companies to bill up to $15 for the service, although residents with disabilities would be able to continue undisturbed with a doctor's note. The idea has not sat well with some residents, including those who argue that the city could still afford to provide the service without the fee.

Thursday night, Creve Coeur's Board of Adjustment will hear a request by developers of a proposed senior living center on Lindbergh Boulevard who are seeking a variance for the project. The request has been delayed a number of times as developers have sought meetings with nearby residents and have taken feedback to make changes to the proposal, which has yet to be presented to the city's Planning and Zoning Commission or City Council.

Friday, one of Creve Coeur Patch's high schools will play what could be one of the best games on the high school football schedule this week, when Parkway Central heads to Kirkwood.
