Senior scoring dynamo Kailey Utley leads the way with a hat trick, in Pirates 5-0 win over Wildcats.
Pattonville goal scoring dynamo Kailey Utley admitted late in Friday's MSHSAA Class 3 District 5 girls soccer championship game, that she sometimes uses an unusual tactic when she makes her move toward the opposing goal. "Sometimes I close my eyes, and the ball just goes in," is what Utley told teammates who were congratulating her after she scored for the third time in the Pirates district title game showdown against rival Hazelwood West, at the Lou Fusz Soccer Complex. The other Pattonville players laughed when Utley said that, and it's a pretty good bet that she was just joking. But if that statement were true, shooting with her eyes closed was effective for Utley, Pattonville's all-time goal scorer, who delivered in a big way once …
Creve Coeur Police said the trio used fake birth certificates and social security numbers to get Missouri IDs.
Three people have been charged with forgery after trying to cash two fraudulent checks at a Creve Coeur bank on Tuesday. Kimberly Collins, 41, Latoya Johnson, 28, both of University City, and Ramsey Hampton, 43, of Chicago, each were charged Wednesday with two felony counts of forgery. Creve Coeur Police said the three used fraudulent Michigan birth certificates and Social Security Numbers to obtain Missouri non-driver’s identification, then created counterfeit checks for an M&I account holder made out to their fictitious names. Collins cashed a check Tuesday for $662.75 at the M&I Bank branch at 10911 Olive Blvd., police said. Johnson then attempted to cash another check for $672.50 later the same day at the same branch. However, a teller…

The national program airing Saturday and Sunday will focus on initiative petition campaigns tied to capping interest rates at 36 percent.
A Missouri ballot initiative aimed at curtailing interest rates at “payday loan” entities is getting some national attention. For an episode of PBS’s Need to Know, airing locally this weekend, the program traveled to the Show Me State to follow around activists who are collecting signatures for an initiative petition. If the ballot measure makes it to the ballot and if voters approve it, interest rates on certain lending companies would be capped at 36 percent. Supporters of the initiative argue that the loan agencies place poorer Missourians in a cycle of debt. But opponents counter that the entities are usually the only way lower-income citizens can obtain short-term loans to pay ordinary expenses. While supporters of the initiative …

Fern Ridge High School students and students enrolled in the Missouri Option Program walked away graduates on Friday.
Parkway School District's Fern Ridge High School saw another class of graduates claim their diplomas on Friday. The school graduated a total 26 seniors in 2012. Principal Rebecca Warren told the audience this year is the school's 20th aniversary. The school, she said, started in 1992 after several years of development. Fern Ridge is a non-traditional academic program, the school's website indicates—an alternative school where students must apply rather than be sent by parents or the court system. Thirty-seven Missouri Option Program (MOP) students also graduated with the Fern Ridge students. The graduation program indicates MOP "was developed for students who have the capability to complete the Missouri High School Graduation Requirements …
The Colts' class of 2012 earned more than $8 million in college scholarships.
If the theme for the night could be just one word, it would have to be unbelievable, because that's the one word hardly anyone could stop saying at Parkway Central's Graduation and Commencement Ceremony, at the Greensfelder Recreation Complex in Queeny Park Thursday night. Surprisingly, there weren't a whole lot of tears shed throughout the evening, but there were certainly lots of smiles, hugs, and cool high-fives, as Parkway Central's 312 graduating seniors said goodbye, received their diplomas, and expressed their love to a school and community that clearly loved them back. "It's great, kinda of a weird feeling, but really unbelievable," said senior and varsity basketball star Zach Biggs, who was also one of 86 Central High students …

Creve Coeur area students can participate in the "Nick News Kids Pick the President" project.
By Dr. Kim Brandon, Principal at Parkway Northeast Middle School Every four years Nickelodeon airs a series of shows called "Nick News Kids Pick the President" where kids have the opportunity to discuss the election issues that matter most to them and have their questions and concerns addressed directly by the presidential candidates. Nick News is currently reaching out to kids across the country to find out what some of those questions and concerns are. By distributing an online survey to a select number of schools, Nick News is asking teachers to pass the survey on to their students before the end of the school year. The survey allows Nick News to collect questions and follow up with students--even in the summer. If a student's question…
