Three Charged with Forgery for Fraudulent Checks

Creve Coeur Police said the trio used fake birth certificates and social security numbers to get Missouri IDs.

Three people have been charged with forgery after trying to cash two fraudulent checks at a Creve Coeur bank on Tuesday. Kimberly Collins, 41, Latoya Johnson, 28, both of University City, and Ramsey Hampton, 43, of Chicago, each were charged Wednesday with two felony counts of forgery. Creve Coeur Police said the three used fraudulent Michigan birth certificates and Social Security Numbers to obtain Missouri non-driver’s identification, then created counterfeit checks for an M&I account holder made out to their fictitious names. Collins cashed a check Tuesday for $662.75 at the M&I Bank branch at 10911 Olive Blvd., police said. Johnson then attempted to cash another check for $672.50 later the same day at the same branch. Woman Charged with Embezzling $234,000 from Creve Coeur Business

The insurance underwriting firm said its clients were protected from the fraud.

A woman was charged Monday with embezzling $234,000 over three years from her former Creve Coeur-based employer. Karen Page, 57, of Creve Coeur, was charged in St. Louis County Circuit Court with class B felony stealing from J. Berg & Associates, 1023 Executive Parkway. The company is an insurance underwriting firm. According to a Creve Coeur Police report, Page deposited company funds into her personal checking account by forging her boss’ signature on checks. The thefts occurred over a period of time which began June 1, 2009. Bond was set at $25,000. Page was freed after posting $2,500, 10 percent of the bond. “Any client or policy holder of our office is always completely protected,” said Bob Berg, president of J. Berg & Associates. “…

BBB Warns Residents of Door-to-Door Scam

Young people are falsely posing as students of L’École Culinaire in an effort to get victims to buy phony magazine subscriptions, according to the Better Business Bureau.

The Better Business Bureau released the following alert earlier this week St. Louis area residents should be alert for a new door-to-door magazine sales scam involving young people posing as students of L’École Culinaire, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns. A homeowner in the 5400 block of Pernod Avenue, in Kirkwood's North Hampton neighborhood, said she was approached by a young man and a woman last week who asked her to buy magazine subscriptions to be sent to servicemen and women overseas. They told her that they were enrolled at the well-known culinary school in St. Louis County and were raising money to further their studies in Italy. The homeowner said she became suspicious when she asked the young woman for the name of the …

Woman Charged with Stealing Meds from Creve Coeur Home

House cleaner was indicted Wednesday for medication theft in Ballwin.

A woman is charged with stealing prescription medication from houses she cleaned in Creve Coeur and Ballwin. Rhonda Glidewell, 50, of South St. Louis, was indicted by a St. Louis County grand jury Wednesday for stealing medication in Ballwin. According to a police report, a homeowner in Ballwin discovered 96 oxycodone pills missing from a drawer in his bathroom on May 27, 2011. His home had been cleaned earlier that day, and the house cleaners were the only ones in his home. Police questioned Glidewell, who cleaned the bathroom, about the incident. She denied taking the pills. In October, a Creve Coeur detective questioned Glidewell regarding a similar incident, and police said Glidewell admitted to the theft from the Ballwin and Creve …

UPDATE: Guilty Pleas In Schnucks Parking Lot Attack Case

Creve Coeur man receives five years probation, suspended imposition of sentence and must continue to seek medical care.

Josef Achtentuch, a Creve Coeur area man charged last year with felony and misdemeanor assault charges pleaded guilty in St. Louis County Circuit Court Thursday morning.  Circuit Court Judge Steven Goldman gave Achtentuch a suspended imposition of sentence and placed him on five years probation for the second-degree assault charge, a felony, and two years for the third-degree assault charge, a misdemeanor. Achtentuch admitted striking an 81-year-old man with his car in the Schnucks parking lot on Olive Boulevard, getting out of his car and throwing a brick at the man. He also drove his car into a shopping cart being pushed by another woman. None of the injuries were life-threatening. During the plea hearing Thursday morning, Goldman …

Police Asked to Up Security For McCaskill After Tea Party Comment

The move follows a conservative activist saying, “We have to kill the Claire Bear," at a Tea Party Express event.

Comments made during a Tea Party Express Event last Thursday against Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) triggered U.S. Capitol Police to contact the Kirkwood Police Department to help increase security for the senator, Politico reports. According to POLITICO, local police have been asked to step up patrols near McCaskill's home in Kirkwood after Scott Boston, a conservative activist, made a statement during the event in which he said, "We have to kill the Claire Bear..." FOX2 VIDEO: Progress Seen In Heroin Education

Ladue Schools co-sponsored Monday night community forum.

A forum on the rise in heroin use in the St. Louis area happened Monday night at Clayton High School, FOX2-TV reported. The Ladue and Brentwood school districts also sponsored the event. Quoting the FOX2 report, "St. Louis County Police chief Tim Fitch says at this time last year there were 24 heroin-related deaths in St. Louis County and this year there have been eight." It's a possible sign that the massive publicity campaign, which has included forums held in school districts across the region, including Parkway and Pattonville, are starting to make a dent, one participant told FOX2. 5/02/12 A digital camera valued at roughly $1,500 was stolen from a Washington University Physicians doctor's office at 605 Old Ballas Suite 100.   5/04/12 A ring was reported reported stolen from a residence on Windrush Creek. 5/05/12 Creve Coeur Police responded to the Merle Scheff Dance Studio and took a property damage report. Police say the studio manager reported graffiti was discovered on the back door of business. An incident report did not identify the nature of the graffiti.

After graduation, Pattonville High School senior Stephanie Vonarx plans on being a lifeguard this summer before heading off to the University of Central Missouri in the fall. She may have gotten a headstart on the lifeguard thing a little early Thursday. Vonarx had a starring role in a tragedy nobody wants repeated in real life, as she played the part of a girl who died in a drunk driving accident on prom night. Pattonville annually stages a mock accident with cooperation from Maryland Heights Police, the Pattonville Fire Protection District and SSM DePaul Health Center as a way to show the very real consequences of what can happen when alcohol impairs your ability to drive. Report: Former Parkway Sub Indicted in Child Porn Case

Richard Ambler is scheduled to be in federal court Friday.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a Parkway School district substitute teacher who passed district background checks is due in federal court to address his indictment by a grand jury on a charge of child porn possession. The paper reports Richard Ambler, of Florissant, taught at the middle and high school level since 2009 and has been removed from the district's substitute rolls.
