Update: CBC Hires Justin Tatum As Head Basketball Coach

Speculation will now turn to the future of Tatum's son Jayson, a rising Sophomore at Metro Catholic Conference rival Chaminade.

CBC announced the hiring of Justin Tatum, a 1997 graduate of the school and the current Head Coach at Soldan as the next Cadets Boys Varisty Basketball Coach Thursday evening.  The St. Louis Post-Dispatch was first to report the hiring. "We received resumes from many coaches with proven track records of success in directing high school basketball programs. The Selection Committee was unanimous in its opinion that Justin Tatum was the best choice for CBC High School," Athletic Director Rocky Streb said in a statement, which indicated national interest in the job. A search committee included Football Coach Scott Pingel, Soccer Coach Terry Michler, and former NFL defensive back Justin Lucas, a teacher and administrator at the school.  Tatum …

He went to the final four 3 times in six years and won state in one of those years. At a school that is NOT a hotbed of athletic talent and is actually quite focused on Academics... He hasn't won anything? At least be fair about facts.   more ›

Shackleford & Defense Drive De Smet Jesuit To Sectional Win Over Eureka

The Spartans advance to face Jackson, which downed Chaminade 60-59 Wednesday.

The Hot Read: De Smet Jesuit advanced to the Class 5 state quarterfinal with a 59-38 win over Eureka Wednesday at Maryville. The Spartans (23-6) refocused on defense in the second half after only taking a four point lead into halftime to wear down the Wildcats (18-11). De Smet Jesuit was led by senior Nolan Berry with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Eureka was paced by senior Tyler Jordan who had 17 in defeat. Key To The Game: Foul Trouble. After playing a full 32 minutes in De Smet Jesuit's win against CBC Friday, Jimmy Barton was plagued by 2 early fouls in the first three minutes of the game Wednesday and sat most of the first half. Eureka's leading scorer Mason Bodingo (15 pts ppg) also picked up 2 fouls early and was not an offensive…

The longtime Cadet basketball coach will remain on the school's faculty.

A spokesman for CBC High School Wednesday confirmed a report that leaked out late Tuesday night that longtime basketball coach Bob McCormack will no longer coach the Cadets after 17 seasons on the bench. (Read Previous Story: CBC Basketball Coach Reportedly Asked to Resign) Rob Staggenborg told Patch that the formal decision not to renew McCormack's contract as coach came Wednesday morning and that the decision was made by Athletic Director Rocky Streb and Principal Br. David Poos. Parents were being notified Wednesday morning. McCormack has not returned a message seeking comment. Staggenborg said coaches were evaluated on an annual basis and that "nothing wrong" happened. McCormack will remain on the faculty of the school. Staggenborg …

De Smet Jesuit Still Alive In State Sectionals Thanks To Barton's Backcourt Play

The Spartans take on Eureka Wednesday night at Maryville University.

In almost every sport and on every opposing team, there's a player that gets under your skin. The kind of player who grates on you with a combination of guts, grit and talent, who drives you crazy. You hate him (or her), but if you're being honest, you'd love that player if they wore your team's jersey. He didn't exactly buy into the characterization when he was presented with it last month, but Jimmy Barton may have filled that bill this season for the De Smet Jesuit Spartans. Barton, the slick ballhandling senior point guard, isn't afraid to play tight defense on opposing guards and mix it up a little at times when games get "chippy." But he's no slouch when it comes to offense. Are You a Big Spartan Fan? You'll Want To Check Out: When …

De Smet Jesuit Downs CBC To Claim District Title

Nolan Berry leads Spartans into state sectional play.

The Hot Read: In a game that at times resembled rugged action you might see on the football field between the two Metro Catholic Conference rivals, De Smet Jesuit used a physical grind to defeat CBC 64-57 Friday at Parkway Central to claim the Class 5 District 4 Championship. Senior Nolan Berry led the Spartans with 21 points in his team's second win against CBC in as many Fridays. Whereas the Spartans used hot shooting early on last week to key the win, this week's episode was more closely contested.  Junior guard Patrick McCaw had 15 first half points en route to a 29 point effort to lead all scorers. Jordan Barnett, another cog in CBC's junior trio that also includes Ray Doby, was unable to get it going offensively but finished with a …

Watch The District Hoops Final Here: De Smet Jesuit vs. CBC

The two Metro Catholic Conference rivals face off for the right to continue in the state tournament. Patch will have live streaming of the game courtesy of FOX Sports Midwest.

Editor's Note: FOX Sports Midwest streaming service seems to be delayed for this game. Link here to FSM's site to find the De Smet Jesuit vs. CBC game. Friday night at Parkway Central, conference rivals will take to the court for the third time this season, with the most on the line. Last week, De Smet Jesuit (21-6) spoiled CBC's senior night last week with a 74-61 win that was more convincing than the score indicated. A CBC (20-7) club that is the athletic envy of any team in the state has at times struggled down the stretch when it has relied on shooting jumpshots. The Cadets broke out of that in the second half of Tuesday's district semifinal against Parkway Central to put away the Colts. The Spartans had no trouble dominating Parkway …

Ladue vs. Chaminade: Watch The District Hoops Championship Game

Patch will have your postgame coverage, while FOX Sports Midwest provides live streaming action. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.

Ladue (21-5) will put one of the area's best point guards in Cornell Johnston, along with frontcourt stalwarts Andrew Maddock and Austin DaGue up against a Chaminade (17-8) club headlined by Jayson Tatum, the co-player of the year in the Metro Catholic Conference and fellow first team All MCC Andy Kleinlein in the backcourt. The Red Devils are tall up front, with Jack Hummel, Will Gladson and Tyler Cook able to intimidate opponents in the paint. How the Rams guard Tatum could decide the contest because at 6-6 he's a potential matchup problem against shorter guards and tough for forwards to defend on the perimeter. You'll want to bookmark this page, as FOX Sports Midwest live streaming coverage of tipoff starts at 7 p.m. Patch will have …
