New businesses came to town while some large employers packed up in Creve Coeur in 2012.
We've reached that time of year where we're reflecting back on the year that was and what had Creve Coeur talking in 2012. Today, we're opening the floor to discussion about the biggest business stories in town over the past year. Many new businesses opened up shop in Creve Coeur over the past 12 months, like Potbelly, and Ray's Donuts, while other established businesses made major changes and expanded their presence, as AMC Theatre did when it brought a Dine-In approach to the West Olive 16. As the final installment of the film series, the premiere of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" drew sold-out crowds to Creve Coeur movie theaters.
Since the launch of the Harry Potter film saga in 2001, attending the midnight premieres have become tradition for movie-goers young and old alike. Katie and Rebecca Mick have seen all seven films at their midnight premiere and July 14, they were more than ready to view the 8th and final movie, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2." "Our father is here, too," Katie said. "He's dressed up as Cornelius Fudge." The Micks joined sold-out crowds at at the AMC West Olive 16 movie theatre in Creve Coeur. All 12 of the 12 midnight screenings sold out by Wednesday evening. “They started letting [ticket-holders] in around 8 p.m.,” said Lt. Galen Cox of Rock Hill, who served security duty at the theater. The end of the Harry Potter saga is nearly here. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 hits movie theaters starting with screenings nationwide at midnight Thursday. Creve Coeur Patch invites you to share your thoughts about all of it. Did Harry Potter bring you or your family back to books? Have the movies been faithful to the books, or is this all just a bunch of hype? One thing is for sure. The movie theaters are going to be busy. At the AMC Creve Coeur, there were 275 tickets to the midnight showings as of 5 p.m. Wednesday. Down the street at the AMC West Olive 16, where 12 screens will show Potter tonight, 7 of 12 showings were sold out by late Wednesday afternoon.
