How Long Will You Wait to See An ER Doc Near Creve Coeur?

A new Medicare database shows how hospitals serving the region—and the rest of the nation—compare for care. The findings for our local hospitals serving Creve Coeur residents might surprise you.

Have a medical emergency? Plan to wait awhile—or not, depending on which hospital you pick. A new database from the federal government shows that residents of Creve Coeur probably will wait longer than average for emergency room care at one hospital and lower than the average at another. For our nearest emergency rooms—Mercy Hospital St. Louis and Barnes Jewish West County Hospital—the numbers compare very differently to the state average. At Barnes, the average wait for attention at an ER is 26 minutes, 10 minutes below the state average. At Mercy, however, the wait is nearly double the average. What about Missouri Baptist or St Lukes? St John's is the big Trauma center, the place to go if you have something disastrous happen. Less serious folks would be left waiting when accident and fire victims are brought in, impacting their wait times. Bristol Bags Chamber Of Commerce Chili Braggin' Rights

The second annual chili cook-off held in conjunction with Olivette on The Go featured creations from several area businesses and restaurants.

Hot. Medium. Mild. Spicy. With Chicken, or without. Some had seafood, some didn't. Such were the palettes which were piqued in the second annual Creve Coeur-Olivette Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-Off, held Saturday during Olivette On The Go Festivities.  Check out our Photo Gallery from the event Ten entries competed for the $1,000 grand prize. Saleeby & Associates, which won the inaugural competition in 2011, did not return to defend the title. Judges included Creve Coeur Mayor Barry Glantz, Olivette Mayor Arthur Merdinian and Chamber President Jeanna Woods of Delmar Gardens And the winner is? Parkway Students To Get Real-Life Education In A Creve Coeur Hospital

Parkway South High School students get full year of class and hospital rounds at Barnes Jewish West County Hospital. It will be open to other Parkway High Schools if the program continues.

Thirteen high school seniors in the Parkway School District are the first to join a new medical course of study linked with Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital that will run the full school year several days a week. Parkway's Board of Education approved the program last week, after a Parkway coordinator developed the partnerships for more than a year.  Parkway district high school seniors-to-be applied for the medical-related study, and were required to commit for a full school year, a district spokeswoman said. Students will start school 2-3 days a week at Corporate College of St. Louis Community College for 2.5 hours of instruction by a Special School District teacher After that, students spend another period of time at Barnes-West. …

Organizers: Creve Coeur Days Festivities Face 'Permanent Cancellation' Without New Home

The board of directors for the event announced Thursday it was unable to strike a deal with BJC or Monsanto.

Creve Coeur Days, a summer staple in the city since 1967, is currently a four day carnival without a place to call home. The non-profit Board of Directors which runs the event, which also includes a parade, announced late Thursday night that the 2012 version may have to be called off if a new location is not found and that the event faces "permanent cancellation." "Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital where the event has been held for the past two years has decided not to have the carnival on their grounds this year,” said Jan Becker, President of the Board of Directors in a statement. “Monsanto, the other location large enough to hold the carnival midway and a previous host, also turned us down. This Is A Week To Focus On Keeping Kids Safe In The Car

Event in Creve Coeur Sunday offers free safety seat checks, with an appointment.

Every day in 2009 an average of two children age 12 and younger were killed, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states on its website. In 2009, an average of 340 were injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes as occupants of passenger vehicles as well, the administration states on its site. For children ages 1 through 12, it is the leading cause of death. Child Passenger Safety Week falls during the third full week of September, which is observed September 18-24 this year. During the week, parents and other caregivers across Missouri can have certified child passenger safety technicians inspect their car seats and provide advice for free.
