The retail giant will be open all day in Manchester on Thanksgiving Day, then Black Friday sales begin at 8 p.m. Here's what you'll find, plus how the store plans to handle security.

Holiday shoppers get ready! The holiday shopping season is getting underway. (Read Previous Story: Walmart Holding Its Earliest Black Friday Ever) As previously reported by Patch, Walmart is beginning its Black Friday deals at its earliest time ever this year. 'Black Friday Creep' Spurs Online Petition Drives to Save Thanksgiving

Thousands are signing an online petitions against Black Friday store opening hours that have been pushed into Thanksgiving Day.

The trend for stores to open earlier and earlier to take advantage of Black Friday sales—even to the point of opening in the evening on Thanksgiving Day—has prompted an online petition drive to give Thanksgiving back to employees and their families. Read More: Black Friday Shopping in St. Louis to Start Earlier Than Ever The original petition was reportedly created by a Target employee upset that the retail giant is opening on Thanksgiving and requiring employees to work instead of spending time with their families. As of Tuesday afternoon, there were more than 190,000 signatures on the petition. (Check out the petition here.) Black Friday Shopping Near Creve Coeur Starting Earlier Than Ever in 2012

Walmart announced a Thanksgiving Day start to its sales. Kohls, Target, Toys R Us, and Best Buy aren't far behind.

Serious shoppers have long known Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is the day for bargains. But as last year showed, retailers are opening earlier than ever and this year is no exception. Walmart has set the bar at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day for 2012 sales to start. Will other stores follow? In the Creve Coeur area, Kohls will open again at 12 a.m. Friday for the second consecutive year. Online Black Friday "Doorbuster" deals will be available on the store's website beginning Wednesday November 21. Macy’s, Target and Toys R Us are among a growing number of shops kicking off Black Friday sales at midnight, the St. Louis Business Journal reports. Some residents and businesses will start stringing up the Christmas lights as soon as the Halloween decorations come down, but hardcore shoppers know when their dream season begins. Shoppers have been at it since midnight. Some have waited in line for days.

Lines snaked around big box retail stores as early as Tuesday afternoon until doors were opened at the stroke of midnight Friday. People ran to scoop up a steal on a $600 TV and the hottest Justin Bieber doll. Some lines were shorter than others proving you don’t have to wait in line 60 hours beforehand, miss your family’s Thanksgiving dinner or risk hypothermia to score some sweet deals. Behold the sights of long and short which will help you begin mapping out next year’s day of dark deals.

Thanksgiving gives way to the biggest shopping day of the year.

Now that the Thanksgiving leftovers have been put away, many people have been out since midnight in search of great Black Friday deals. Smart Black Friday shoppers have already made their lists and checked them twice. They’ve been scoping out the ads for weeks.  They might have even mapped out their shopping routes.
