On-again, off-again interest in the former Borders site appears to have been rekindled.
Creve Coeur City Planner Whitney Kelly confirmed to Patch Friday that representatives for the discount grocer ALDI has submitted building plans and applied for a sign permit at the former Borders bookstore property on Olive Boulevard. Borders closed last September. Last March, Patch first reported on ALDI's interest in the site, but that those talks did not reach the formal application or planning stage with city officials. Patch left messages Friday morning with representatives for ALDI and the commercial developer of the property. A letter posted on the former Borders front door from the city dated October 3, 2012 allowing for interior demolition and other work at the site indicates an October 24 deadline for a building permit to be …

Smurfit-Stone, Borders and Chick-fil-A all made headlines in 2011.
The year 2011 saw changes in the Creve Coeur business community in operations both large and small. There was expansion, retraction, new life for old businesses, and one business made news even though it won't be locating here. Here, in no particular order is a rundown of some of the big business stories of 2011. We welcome your comments below: Pratzel's January saw a pair of announcements which had a big impact on the community. Pratzel's, the jewish bakery with a legacy of more than 90 years in business around the St. Louis area, most recently in a retail outlet at Kohn's Deli in Creve Coeur, announced it was closing up shop. "Everything's gone except for the crumbs," one man said on the last day in business in January. But the bakery …

In this case, everything from books to shelves, must go.
Less than two months after announcing the Borders bookstore chain would liquidate and close, the company's Creve Coeur location was open for the final day Monday. There was a busy stream of activity inside the business and in the parking lot as shoppers came in for one last book, or to pick up fixtures like the shelving they where the books were displayed. Annie Rodriguez, of St. Louis, said Monday's trip to the store was the fourth or fifth she'd made since the liquidation announcement. She said she bought 50 on Monday alone, with a focus on novels and spanish books. A realtor working with the property owner, Mid-County Real Estate LLC says retail and medical interests have inquired about the anchor space Borders leaves behind at Olive …

All On The Same Page Bookstore will open its doors this fall.
In the shadow of a closing Borders bookstore, a new, independent bookstore is opening in Creve Coeur: All On The Same Page Bookstore will open its doors on October 1 at 11052 Olive Blvd. in the space formerly occupied by The Racketman. “We’re going to be a small, old-time, comfortable place where you can come in, look for books, sit down, read for a bit and if we don’t have the book you’re looking for, we’ll find it for you,” store owner Robin Tidwell said. Unlike the large national chains, Tidwell said her store is not aiming to be all things for all people. The bookstore will primarily feature used books but will also include newly-published books, however not necessarily the New York Times bestseller types of books, Tidwell explained. “…
